Learn more about traditional wickerwork

The Thun Basket-weaving Museum presents artworks woven from wicker, rattan, paper and seaweed. From a tiny basket to a child’s wheelchair, this exceptional museum introduces you to the history of the traditional craft.

A wooden staircase leads to the Basket-weaving Museum, where all manner of unique items are displayed. Several of these are family heirlooms; others were entrusted to the Basket-weaving Museum by self-employed basket weaver Therese Leutwyler. The range of items on show in the museum is astonishing: everything from a woven child’s wheelchair to a tiny basket is exhibited. Special exhibitions provide details of weaving techniques, materials or woven artworks from around the world.
