This winter, gourmets are invited to take a tour of the Bernese Oberland. Discover the magical Lake Thun region by train, boat and bus – enjoying a delicious three-course meal along the way, with each course served in a different location. The tour is available daily between 6 January and 2 March 2025.
From 6 January to 2 March 2025, our new food tour invites you to discover the magical region of Lake Thun with your taste buds as well as your eyes. A picturesque train ride from Interlaken takes you along the banks of Lake Thun as far as Spiez, where you will enjoy an aperitif in Europe’s most beautiful bay at the Restaurant Seegarten Marina. You then take a boat across deep blue Lake Thun to the St. Beatus caves. The main course in your three-course meal is served at the Restaurant Stein & Sein. Afterwards, a bus transports you back to Interlaken, where you can savour a wonderfully sweet dessert at the Grand Café-Restaurant Schuh – a fitting conclusion to a memorable tour of culinary discovery.
What you can expect:
The food tour begins in Interlaken. To go on the tour, you need a starter kit. The starter kit contains a QR code to begin the digital tour, a drink, a regional snack, three meal vouchers and tickets for the boat, train and bus transfers. Kids also receive a set of colouring postcards and colouring pencils.
Important: From Monday to Saturday, the tour starts from Tourist Information Interlaken. On Sundays, the tour starts at the BLS travel centre at Interlaken West station.
10.34 am: Switzerland’s prettiest train ride
First you take the train from Interlaken West to Spiez. To enjoy the views of deep blue Lake Thun, take a seat by the panoramic windows on the right-hand side of the carriage facing the direction of travel.
11.00 am: Winter Walk to the bay of Spiez
When you arrive in Spiez, your digital guide will help you find your way to the first food station. This involves a 15-minute stroll to the most beautiful bay in Europe. Along the way, you will learn interesting facts about wine growing in alpine regions.
11.30 am: 1st stop – Restaurant Seegarten Marina
Your first culinary station is the Restaurant Seegarten Marina, which promises a welcoming atmosphere. Choose from a small plate of dry-cured beef, rolls of sliced "Hobelkäse" cheese or a vegan option with drink included.
12.28 pm: Boat trip on Lake Thun
Board the boat for a stunning 45-minute crossing from Spiez to the St. Beatus caves in Sundlauenen.
1.30 pm: Winter Walk with photo opportunity
On arriving in Sundlauenen, you walk up to the famous St. Beatus caves. Along the way, you will have the chance to take a souvenir snap of the rocks plunging down to Lake Thun from a legendary viewpoint. Around 20 minutes later, your next course awaits at the Restaurant Stein & Sein.
Important: If you have difficulty walking, you can take a bus departing from Sundlauenen, Pilgerweg at 1.28 pm and get off at Sundlauenen, Beatushöhlen (one stop). This journey is included in the price of the tour.
2.00 pm: 2nd stop – Restaurant Stein & Sein
In the rarefied surroundings of the Restaurant Stein & Sein, you can look forward to spectacular views and a unique ambience between rock formations. Savour the regionally inspired main course, with drink included.
3.15 pm: Optional visit to the caves
After the delicious main course, you can choose to visit the St. Beatus caves (entry fee applies). Simply go to the ticket desk – the caves are well worth a visit!
4.37 pm: Bus back to Interlaken
You then take bus no. 21 back to Interlaken, Jungfraustrasse. Just steps from here is the sweet conclusion to the tour.
5.00 pm: 3rd stop – Grand Café-Restaurant Schuh
To round off the tour, enjoy a delicious dessert at the Grand Café-Restaurant Schuh, which is located next to the Höhematte Interlaken. Good to know: The Höhematte is also home to Winter Park Interlaken. Entry is free.

Choice of cake or pastry from the cabinet, accompanied by one hot drink of your choice or glass of dessert wine (1dl). Vegetarians can choose a "vegan chocolate cake" from the cake cabinet.
Children aged 6 to 16 can book a kids’ menu (half-sized portions).
Only alcohol-free drinks are served to children aged 16 or under.
