Skiers are already familiar with the Engstligenalp as a guaranteed-snowfall ski area that offers excellent conditions well into spring. But the Engstligenalp near Adelboden is also ideal for snowshoe trekking. The Engstligenalp trail is an easy, continuously signposted route. The trail starts directly at the cable-car top station and initially goes downhill gently to Läger. Leading past snow-covered alpine chalets, the route takes you across the expansive plateau of the Engstligenalp. The route passes over the snow-covered gravelly delta of the Wildstrubel in a sweeping arc. Depending on the depth of snow, you will be able to take your bearings from the Grosse Lägerstei, the largest boulder to have rolled off the Wildstrubel. The return route will lead you back to the snow-covered huts on the Läger and back along the outward route to the cable car. You will also be passing the two restaurants with their wonderful sun terraces that are situated along the route.
