  • Start: Lägerstutz/Roteschwand, Lombachalp (Bus stop)
  • Destination: Habkern Dorf (Bus stop)
The winter hiking trail starts at the Lombachalp. It traverses a wonderfully tranquil winter landscape and passes sun-coloured mountain cabins on the way to the village.

The access point is just above the Jägerstübli restaurant, where snowshoe routes are also signposted. The path takes in snow-laden fir trees and offers stunning views as the valley spreads out into an untouched winter wonderland. Animal tracks are visible here and there in the calming stillness. The winter trail continues over the flat of the «Mad», passing mountain cabins painted in sunny shades. Next, the path slopes downhill before flattening out at the «Schwendallmi». Shortly afterwards, the winter trail connects with the road. From this point, hikers can follow the road towards Habkern village or switch to a snowshoe path after a few metres.

Directions & Parking facilities

From Lucerne, drive over the Brünig Pass; coming from Bern, take the motorway via Thun-Spiez to Interlaken. The junction for Habkern is reached via Unterseen.

At the intersection in the centre of Habkern (bank, post office, shops), go straight on to Schwendi, then follow the road onwards to Lägerstutz/Lombachalp. The distance from Habkern village to the Lombachalp is 6 km. Charges apply for parking at Schwendi/Tschieme.

Alternative

Use the car parks in the centre of the village and change to the Bus alpin at the "Zäundli" stop. The bus takes you directly to the Lombachalp.

At the Lägerstutz car park (Lomabachalp), parking charges apply (cash or credit card payment). Please note that parking space is limited and fills up quickly at weekends and in fine weather. Travel by public transport and Bus alpin is therefore recommended.

From Interlaken West station, take bus 106 to Habkern Zäundli. From here, take a Bus alpin directly to Lombachalp-Roteschwand. For Habkern-Lombachalp connections, check the Bus alpin timetable.

The Bus alpin runs from the end of December to the end of March. The minibus is run by the operators of the Sporthotel Habkern. Guests are asked to register where possible to ensure the right number of minibuses can be provided. Waiting times are possible in good weather conditions, when visitor numbers are high.

The path is also suitable as a snowshoe trail. After «Schwendallmi», the snowshoe path allows hikers to avoid walking on the road.
