43 days with four people on the surface of two table tennis tables. No privacy!
The rowers of the area of the Lake of Thun are the first Swiss team on the starting line of the world's toughest rowing race. The route covers 4444 kilometers from California to Hawaii. After the starting shot, there is no turning back and the four of us are completely on our own, as the race is considered unaccompanied. The boat is propelled 24/7 by two rowers. This means rowing for 2 hours and resting for 2 hours in shifts, with a maximum of 90 minutes sleep at a time. Seasickness and hallucinations included.
It is an incredibly honest experience in which we are confronted with issues such as limited resources, setbacks, wetness, cold, heat, physical pain, living in confined spaces and fatigue.
But there is also the other experience! The endless expanse, the tremendous forces of the elements, a gesture of appreciation and care from your team member, the overwhelming beauty of a rainbow, and the magic of a rowing shift in the starry night.
Besides the challenges of everyday life on board, it was the simplicity of life and encounters with creatures of the sea, that fascinated us. And last but not least, the encounter with ourselves has a lasting effect and makes this journey an extremely intense experience just by watching it
Our racing boat was ceremoniously christened Little SWISS LADY by Pepe Lienhard and was our home, refuge and our only safety for over 6 weeks.
Well over 600 people were in space, but not even 200 managed to cross the Pacific in a rowing boat.. Astrid 50, Denise 42, Philipp 57 and Toni 35 are among them.
Come on board and experience one of the last real adventures! THE CHALLENGING WAY TO HAWAII
